Can Christians Drink Alcohol at All?

Well...for starters, I don't drink.  I don't know that I ever will drink alcohol in any form or fashion.  But here's the thing, in the Bible, Jesus said that we should not be drunk with wine.  I wish that life was so simple that when the Bible says something, we live by it, no questions asked, but unfortunately, that's not the reality...

Many people might ask, "Could we drink it as long as we don't drink enough to get drunk?"  My answer would be yes, but that I would first make sure that I only did so around those that I'm closest to.  You know, someone who agrees with me that it's ok to do that, but who also knows when I've had enough and tells me to stop if I'm about to go overboard on it.

The only chance there ever would be of me drinking alcoholic beverages would be with my spouse (anniversary, etc.).  The reason I wouldn't do it otherwise is because if someone sees you, they might get the wrong idea, for example, if my pastor sees me in a bar, he's going to think, "Oh MY WORD!!  She's a DRUNKARD!!"  People don't stop to consider the fact that you are not getting drunk, you're only drinking a tiny glass full...just enough to get a taste of it.  I believe that if you're going to do it, just do it with the closest of friends or relatives and don't get drunk.  That way, everyone knows that you weren't drunk and you had no intention of becoming such.
