Poetry I Wrote About the 9-11 Attacks

No Fear

When planes come crashing through the building walls
When screams of terror fill the air
When buildings thunder to the ground amid the black smoke
When you watch with horror as people try to jump
NO FEAR!

When you hear the distant sirens
When you watch the confusion turn to chaos
When you want to rescue your oved ones
When you see a seemingly safe city now splashed with blood
NO FEAR!

When you wonder where God is
When nothing seems to go quite right
When your grief for dear ones lost seems too much to bear
When you feel so helpless and alone
NO FEAR!

If I Could Erase the Memories

If I could erase the memories
Of planes crashing into buildings for no apparent reason
Of terror like we've never seen before in our country
Of fires raging in buildings.
If I could erase the memories...
I would.

If I could erase the memories
Of family members dying terrible deaths
Of the fear of losing a loved one
Of the long hours waiting to see if they were still living.
If I could erase the memories...
I would.

If I could erase the memories
Of towers falling and making huge holes in the ground floor
Of wars and rumors of them
Of families being ripped apart after a sudden tragedy because “Daddy’s gotta go get the bad guys”
If I could erase the memories...
I would.

If I could erase the memories
Of pain
Of defeat
Of depression
If I could erase the memories...
I would.

If I could erase the memories...
But I can’t.
They’re there…imprinted in your mind for eternity.
If only I could help you…I would,
But all I have left to do...is pray.
